Central sector scheme of scholarship
Overview
The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Higher Education, Government
of India has introduced this new scholarship in 2008 to provide financial assistance
to meritorious students from low-income families to meet day-to-day expenses while
pursuing higher studies. Total 82000 fresh scholarships per annum (41000 for boys
and 41000 for girls) will be awarded for graduate / postgraduate studies in colleges
and universities and for professional courses such as Medical, Engineering etc.
The total number of scholarships will be divided amongst the State Boards based
on the State’s population in the age group of 18-25 years, after segregating share
of CBSE and ICSE on the basis of number of students passing out from various Boards
in the country. The number of scholarships allotted to a Board would be distributed
amongst pass outs of the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams of the Board in
the ratio of 3:2:1. Within the specified quota, the selection shall be made on merit.
The reservation would be applicable in terms of Central Reservation Policy
Eligibility:
- The student should have scored a minimum 80% of marks in Class XII of 10+2 pattern
or equivalent.
- The student should belong to non-creamy layer as specified by GOI.
- Should not have any other scholarship scheme.
- The Undergraduate/Postgraduate/Professional courses are pursued in a recognized
college/ institution in India.
- The scholarship once
awarded will continue and it will be renewed from year to year
till the completion
of the course for which the award has been made. A fresh income
certificate each
year will not be called for provided the scholar fulfils all other
terms and conditions
stipulated for the renewal.
Nature of Scholarship:
- The scholarship
will be given @ Rs.1000/- per month at Graduation level for first
three years of
College and University courses and Rs.2000/-per month at Post graduation
level.
- Students pursuing professional courses would get Rs.2000/- per month in the 4th
& 5th year.
- The scholarship would be paid for 10 months in an academic year.
Renewal of Scholarships:
A scholarship under
the scheme is renewable from year to year within the same stage
of education. The
renewal will depend on promotion to the next class provided the
scholar secures 60%
or more marks in aggregate in the semester/annual examination
which determines his
promotion to the next class. It will also be subject to discipline
and maintenance of
attendance by the scholar. Complaints against these scholars
regarding
indiscipline including any complaints of having indulged in ragging
would
lead to forfeiture
of scholarship.
Payment of Scholarship:
Scholarship will be
paid to the selected students directly by the Central Government
through a Bank
Account opened by them for the purpose in a designated Bank. Based
on the eligibility
certificate presented by the awardees, the designate bank(s)
shall open account
for all such merit scholars and ensure timely credit and maintain
a proper database of
the account numbers of the students receiving the scholarship.
Documents Required:
- +2 Mark Sheet/Transfer certificate
- Income Certificate
- Caste certificate in case of reservation
- Joining Report from the Head of the institution where he has joined UG course

year, the student should hand over the dully filled application with
the required
documents to the Head of the Institution, where he has joined UG course.

Free education scheme
Overview
First generation
undergraduates in Tamil Nadu, irrespective of their caste or income,
will not have to
pay tuition fees from the coming academic year. The Tamil Nadu
Governor Hon.
Dr.Surjit Singh Barnala made this announcement in the State Assembly
on Wednesday,
6th January 2010. The families that have never had a graduate in the
family can take
benefit of the above scheme. The State Government will bear the
entire tuition
fee of such students who secure admission to professional courses
under the Single
Window System. Students studying in government and private engineering,
medical, dental,
agricultural, veterinary, and law colleges, irrespective of their
caste or income
will benefit from the scheme.
Eligibility:
Free Education
Scheme is applicable to BC, MBC & DNC students studying in
- 3 Year Arts/Science Degree courses (B.A., B.Sc., B.Com, etc.,)
- 3 Year Polytechnic Diploma Courses
- Professional Degree courses (Medical, Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary, Law,
Indian Medicine etc., - For under graduate only
For BCs / MBCs/DNCs:
- Parental annual income should not exceed Rs.50,000/- p.a.
- Students should be first graduate in the family.
For MBCs & DNCs
- No conditions in so far as the 3 year Degree Courses only (Viz BA, B.Sc., B.Com
etc),

3 year Polytechnic Diploma Course and Professional Degree Courses like
Medical,
Agricultural, Veterinary, Law, Indian Medicine etc., conditions
applicable to BC
also applicable to MBC/DNC.
Nature of Scholarship:
Tuition
fees, Special fees, Examination fees and Other Compulsory fees payable
by
the
students to the institutions at the rate fixed by respective Departments
are
reimbursed to the students.The fees structure charged in Government
Colleges alone
will be
sanctioned irrespective of the rates charged by other private Colleges.
